Working Groups

In addition to our geographically-based branches, Portland DSA has multiple member-led working groups that focus on specific issues. You can find each working group’s events and meetings on the main chapter calendar.

The Eco-Socialist Working Group fights for both the long-term and short-term actions necessary for a working class response to the climate crisis, focusing on transit, the relationship between labor and the climate movement, and the defense of Portland’s ecology and environment.

The electoral working group campaigns to win candidate races, ballot initiatives, and legislative priorities, fighting to build a genuine socialist alternative to the two-party status quo at all levels of government, including independent electoral structures and internal candidate recruitment.

The Housing Working Group organizes Portland’s renters to realize their power and confront the landlord class, building a mass movement of working class Portlanders in citywide campaigns for housing justice, and to win a Renters’ Bill of Rights.

The Labor Working Group trains rank-and-file organizers to energize and support existing unions, organize the unorganized, and build the socialist movement in workplaces. Organizers encourage, support and assist Portland DSA members to “salt” into workplace organizing campaigns or establish campaigns where none exist.
